Beauty and the Beast came out in 1991
Directed by: Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise
Because he was unkind to an witch disguised as an old woman, a curse was set upon a greedy prince (Robby Benson) so he would look like a beast. A rose controlled the curse and if the rose petals all fell down before the prince learned to love, he would be stuck as the beast forever. The last rose petals all fall on his 21st birthday so he lived in his castle hiding. In a near by village, a girl named Belle (Paige O'Hara) and her father (Rex Everhart) live together and a very annoying man named Gaston (Richard White) keeps trying to win Belle's heart. One day Belle's father wanders off and accidentally finds himself in the castle where he becomes the Beast's prisoner. Belle finds him and trades her freedom for her fathers. The Beast lets her father go and intends to keep Belle inside the castle forever where she and him are forced to live together. The Father then returns to the village and tells the others about the horrors of the Beast.
This movie is filled with talking furniture. Gaston (who is the villain in this movie) has a clumsy sidekick LeFou who is very mistreated and supplies the comic relief through out the movie. This movie also has bright colors appealing to the eye that aren't normally in real life. Belle was also curvy and attractive like most good guys are in animated movies.
I really love this movie. It is a classic and one of my favorites. I have been watching it since I was little and that's probably why. Beauty and the Beast never gets old. I would give this movie 9 out of 10 stars.

Anastasia
Anastasia was made in 1997
Directed by: Don Bluth and Gary Goldman.
A con man named Dimitri, (John Cusack) tries to win the award money for finding the long lost duchess, Anastasia. He meets an orphan girl who just got kicked out of the orphanage Anya (Meg Ryan) and trains her to pass off as Anastasia to be able to win the money. They run into some trouble when the evil Rasputin (Christopher Lloyd) comes back from the dead to try to stop their journey and kill Anya for he thinks she is the real Anastasia.
Rasputin has a clumsy sidekick bat named Bartok. He provided many humorous moments of the movie and he was also a talking animal. Rasputin was an ugly bad guy with pointy facial features and Dimitri and Anastasia were smooth looking attractive people.
I really liked this movie. It had a nice plot and it was an interesting twist on an historical event which is something I really like about it. The movie was also dark at times which I loved. I give it 8 out of 10 stars.

Bambi
Bambi was made in 1942
Directed by: David Hand
Bambi is about the life of a deer who is the heir of the forest. You see Bambi (Donnie Dunagan) growing up as he learns his life lessons and deals with life's issues with his mother (Paula Winslowe). He meets two friends named Thumper (Peter Behn) and Flower (Stan Alexander) who grow up with him. Bambi's dad (Fred Shields) who is the Prince of the Forest is distant but watches over Bambi from afar. The movie also has a message that hunting is wrong and people should stay out of the forest, leaving its natural beauty.
One factor that made Bambi an animation movie is that the animals talk. Most animated movies give personification making animals talk. Bambi also had bright colors in the forest that usually aren't found in forests but are appealing to eyes. That is also a characteristic found in animated movies.
I personally didn't like the movie because it was boring. The whole entire movie was Bambi running around and there was barely any talking and there wasnt even a real plot line. I give it 4 out of 10 stars.

Genre
Animation comes from early drawings in cave paintings. They were images drawnnext to each other in a sequence to look like the pictures were moving. The first animated film was Humorous Phases of Funny Faces in 1906. Walt Disney invented a way of innovating animated movies with his Multiplane Camera. That was a way to create a three-dimensional effect. The first feature length animated film was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 which used the Multiplane Camera. Then in 1964 computers started being used to produce animated movies. Then Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) was born with the first full length CGI movie being Toy Story.
In animated movies, the bad guys usually have pointy ugly facial features and deep voices. They also often have a ditsy sidekick who provides the comic relief within the film. The good guys are always very attractive with bright eyes with perfect bodies. In movies with animals, the animals always talk and bright colors are used that aren't normally found in real life. Those colors attract eyes to make it more appealing.
The films I chose are: Bambi (1942), Beauty and the Beast (1991), and Anastasia (1997).
